CRITICAL MASS - ENCLOSING LANDSCAPES

This semester Studio EAST has been working on mineral materials under the title CRITICAL MASS.

After focusing on the interaction between form and material, students have been asked to integrate a given landscape in the narrative of their project by enclosing a fragment of it by a wall. The built does not exist detached from its surrounding landscape, and they grow and erect out of the same ground - therefore they are mutually dependent. Just Like the built, landscape consists of spaces. Spaces which are socially produced or constructed, which material and cultural value are clearly physically and intellectually perceptible. The narrative that leads to the form and type of enclosure is left open to the student, and design actions have to be developed in order to manifest a specific atmospheric space.

The projects will be presented and exhibited on Wednesday 22.12.21 in the Archizoom exhibition room.

The jury will be composed by Prof. Anja Fröhlich (AFF Architekten Berlin, EPFL), Annika Seifert (APC, HSLU) and Meritxell Vaquer (Bosshard Vaquer, ZHAW) and critics will be given from 10:00 to 18:00.
