Let X be a homogeneous space of an algebraic group acting with connected stabilizers over an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p\geq 0$. Together with Michel Brion we showed that the maximal prime-to-p quotient of the fundamental group of X is abelian, and gave a bound on the number of its topological generators. These results were refined in recent work of Borovoi and Demarche who gave a `formula' for the fundamental group in terms of invariants of the homogeneous space.
