By developing in full the ideas of QSS (quasi steady states) and QE (quasi-equilibria), which go back to Michaelis-Menten research on the rates of chemical reactions, we build a general approach to the analysis of the equilibria of a large class of nonlinear stochastic processes of interaction subject to the appropriately extended condtions of detail balance or, more generally, complex balance.
