Abstract: Disney Research Zurich started in 2008. By now 45 researchers conduct over 70 distinct research projects in the fields of graphics computer animation facial modeling video processing stereo 3D computational materials and wireless communication. In this talk I will give a few examples of such research highlight the scientific challenges and explain the potential of the results for the various Disney business units. Examples include facial modeling 2D and 3D animation video retargeting stereo 3D processing and 3D reproduction of materials. Biography: Prof. Gross is a professor of Computer Science at ETH Zurich head of the Computer Graphics Laboratory and the director of Disney Research Zurich. His research interests include computer graphics image generation and display geometric modeling computer animation and video processing. He has published more than 300 scientific papers and he holds many patents on core graphics and visualization technologies. Prof. Gross was chair of the papers committee of ACM SIGGRAPH 2005 and he serves on the scientific advisory boards of various research organizations. Prof. Gross is a fellow of the EUROGRAPHICS Association and a member of the German Academy of Science Leopoldina. He received the SWISS ICT Champions Award in the category People in 2011.
