Illuminating the Invisible: Tracking Sub-Femtosecond Electron Dynamics in Liquids with High Harmonic Generation
How do we measure the ultrafast dynamics of electrons within bulk liquids? The answer lies in high harmonic generation (HHG), which provides the ideal probe for capturing these ultrafast phenomena. Yet its application to liquids has remained elusive—until now. In this talk, we investigate whether electrons in liquids behave like those in gases or crystalline solids by studying their sub-femtosecond (< 10-15 s)dynamics with HHG. Combining advanced spectroscopy with ab-initio simulations, we resolve attosecond-scale recollision events and uncover how intense fields dynamically reshape liquid band gaps. Join us to explore this exciting frontier of electron behaviour in liquids.
