Abstract
In this imaging lunch we'll discuss about image file formats, from JPEG to ZARR and HDF5 passing by TIFF, DICOM, NIFTI. We'll go into details about metadata, data formats, compression modes, indexed access, and handling of multi-channel, 3D, temporal data. We'll go into examples about appropriate ways to encode raw data, masks, labels, etc, as well as how to read and write data from python. This talk is aimed at interested practitioners and scientists aiming to optimise image analysis pipelines

Learning Objectives
  • Understand the differences and use cases for various image file formats (JPEG, TIFF, DICOM, NIFTI, ZARR, HDF5)
  • Learn how to encode and manage raw data, masks, and labels effectively
  • Gain practical knowledge on how to read and write image data from Python, including handling metadata and compression

Level: Intermediate level lunch for practitioners

Registration required

About the Imaging Lunches: Once per month, the EPFL Center for Imaging organises an event dedicated to all PhD students and postdocs working with/in imaging. Discuss the latest advances in imaging. Connect with imaging peers. Learn about popular imaging tools!
