Hamiltonian Dynamics Seminar
Abstract: The aim of this talk is to familiarise the audience with the basic notions and ideas of G2-geometry and explain how it is connected to other areas of mathematics. I will give a brief sketch of the history of G2-manifolds culminating in a discussion of the generalised Kummer and the twisted connected sum constructions. Then I will discuss the relation between G2-manifolds and minimal submanifold and Yang-Mills theory as well as some of Donaldson-Thomas’ ideas on how this might be used to construct interesting new counting invariants.
