2014 UNESCO International Conference on Technologies for Development !
Deadline: 25 May 2014
Innovative technologies have a central role to play in the effort to alleviate poverty in this world. Innovative technology also means appropriate technology in the sense that it has to be socially, culturally, environmentally and economically accepted by the stakeholders. However, what are the key factors that will determine whether or not a technology succeeds in its intended role to reduce poverty?
The third UNESCO Conference on Technologies for Development taking place from 4-6 June 2014 at the SwissTech Convention Center will focus on essential technologies and examine questions such as: What are the needs for essential technologies? What are successful processes to develop and deploy essential technologies? How can we evaluate the impact of technologies? How does impact measurement drive innovation? The conference aims to bring together researchers, decision-makers, representatives from NGOs and international organizations, and the private sector eager to generate knowledge focusing on state-of-the-art technologies and their potential for the global South.
Some 125 papers will be presented in 24 sessions which will be attended by around 300 participants. In addition we will have 3 poster sessions, an open hardware water monitoring hackathon and the social event will take place in the vineyards of Lavaux, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The conference program and the session details are now available @ http://cooperation.epfl.ch/2014Tech4Dev/Programme

We look forward to your attendance and active participation at the conference!
