In this lunch&LEARN session, Mirko Susta (Università degli Studi di Urbino Carlo Bo) will present a study aimed to advance research in university didactics, focusing on Faculty Development, a relatively new field in the Italian context.
Traditionally, university faculty prioritize research over teaching, making it essential to promote a didactic culture through systemic interventions. One such initiative involved the creation of a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) based on the European DigCompEdu framework, designed to enhance the teaching skills of newly hired lecturers at the University of Urbino.
The study assessed the MOOC’s effectiveness as an online training tool, evaluating its accessibility and usability within a Faculty Development perspective. Out of 64 participants, 16 completed the course and obtained a final certificate. A combination of qualitative and quantitative methods was used, including the TET-SAT self-assessment tool, specifically designed questionnaires, the Intrapersonal Technology Integration Scale (ITIS), Moodle platform data, and feedback from international experts.
Findings indicated that the MOOC was an effective training device for university lecturers, with improvements in digital competence and changes in attitudes towards technology use in teaching. The ITIS results further highlighted the integration of technology in university teaching, while expert evaluations provided insights into strengths and areas for improvement.
