The field of quantum magnetism presents an arena where theoretical models and experiments on novel materials with advanced electronic properties meet to further our understanding of quantum many body physics. I will illustrate the unique role of neutron scattering through selected results from fundamental low-dimensional spin models to novel high-temperature superconductors.
