EPFL Photonics Chapter (EPC) is pleased to invite you to our monthly POB (Pizza-Optics-Beer) seminar! It is set to take place on Wednesday, September 27th, 2023, at 18:15 in BM 1130.
For organizational purposes, please register for the event using this doodle before September 27th, 2023.

This month, Deepthy Kavungal will give a talk on her work "Breaking Boundaries: ImmunoSEIRA - A Sensor Uniting Nanophotonics, Biology, and AI for Neurodegenerative Disease Detection" :

In this talk, a novel infrared metasurface sensor: ImmunoSEIRA - uniting the powers of nanotechnology, biology, and artificial intelligence for neurodegenerative disease detection will be introduced. The sensor is based on plasmonic surface-enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy combined with immunoassay, which detects alpha-synuclein, an early structural biomarker protein for neurodegenerative diseases with clinical specificity and identifies its different structural species using their unique spectroscopic signals. Unprecedentedly, the sensor is augmented with Deep Neural Network, enabling quantitative differentiation of aSyn aggregates. Capable of multiplexing and retrieving aggregate signatures from complex biomatrix, the sensor shows promise for neurodegenerative disease diagnosis, disease progression monitoring, and evaluation of novel therapies.

You don't know POBs?
POBs (Pizza-Optics-Beer) are monthly seminars organized by the student association EPFL Photonics Chapter.
A PhD or a postdoc gives a 20-minutes presentation about his/her research in photonics, meanwhile we serve beers and pizza!
The event is free and open to anyone.

We thank the Doctoral Program in Photonics (EPDO), the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE.), Optica and SwissPhotonics for their support.
