The success of the probability theory in mathematics and theoretical physics is due not so much to its measure theoretic foundation but because it exploits and enhances symmetries of the structures it applies to. We shall describe in this lecture two alternative approaches to the concept of probability, where

  • the first one is motivated by the ongoing revision of the set theoretic language in mathematics, as it is being systematically superseded by the category theoretic one;
  • the second approach is motivated by the needs of biologiy and linguistics, where the structures do not possess symmetries of the kind physical structures enjoy.
