Produced by the Scala Center at EPFL, sponsored by Bestmile

The Scala Center and LAMP Dotty team at EPFL invite you to discover the fun of contributing to the FLOSS* projects in Scala: choose an issue, get your PR merged by the end of the day, get the “Contributors” t-shirt AND a chance to win the very first ticket to the ScalaDays 2019! In addition, there will be a couple of mini talks and presentations, notably from Typelevel, Oracle Labs and more; check out the full program and more about the sprees here (https://github.com/scalacenter/sprees/blob/master/README.md).

Sign-up on the Meetup page is required and free but the number of participants is limited to 30, due to the distribution 1 library author : 5 contributors. In our experience, that ratio is required to maintain the high quality of learning/teaching experience. If more project authors sign up, we will include more participants so please do sign up!

Is this event for me? Sure it is! Scala sprees are designed for Scala enthusiasts that are not sure where to start as well as for experienced contributors that are eager to learn more, meetlibrary authors in person and perfect their craft. We recommend Seth Tisue’s talk “You Are A Scala Contributor” (https://youtu.be/DTUpSTrnI-0) to better understand if you are or how you might become a Scala contributor. In conclusion, we welcome every Scala enthusiast who would like to participate and discover, there is no entry level knowledge required.

With this event, we would like to kick-start the celebratory spirit within the Swiss Scala community. The upcoming year marks the 15th anniversary of the Scala language as well as the 10th anniversary of the Scala Days conference. If that’s not enough, EPFL is celebrating the 50th anniversary of becoming the Federal institution! For all these reasons, the Scala Center is organising Scala Days at EPFL, June 11-13  2019, and a couple of other events building up to it, opening with the Scala spree on the 15th of December 2018.

If you have an idea; you’d like to help us in any way (advice, hosting in your town, suggesting interesting topics) or you would like us to help your community project please let us know: [email protected] cc [email protected]

Special thanks to Bestmile for supporting and sponsoring the very first Scala spree in Switzerland!
