Aim of the programme
After a two-year pilot phase, SNSF Spark is back to stay!
SNSF Spark aims at supporting the rapid testing or development of novel and unconventional scientific approaches, methods, theories, standards and ideas in any disciplines. The focus is on promising ideas of high originality for which preliminary data are not necessarily available (high-risk research). Applicants can request a budget of Min. CHF 50’000 – Max. 100’000 for 6-12 months.

Anonymization of the project description
Proposals are evaluated in a double-blind process by members of an international pool of experts. Read carefully how to anonymise your proposal in the EPFL Toolkit to avoid a dismissal by the SNSF!

Who can apply?
  • If you applied to the SNSF Spark 2019 or 2020 calls you ARE eligible!
  • If you apply now (SNSF Spark 2023 call), and you either get the grant or get rejected and rated among the weakest third of the proposals, you cannot apply again for the 4 subsequent calls.
  • Applicants at any career level holding a Doctorate (PhD or MD-PhD) or equivalent qualification.
  • Doctoral students are eligible only if they have completed at least 3 years of research work since obtaining their higher education degree and prior to commencing their doctorate.
