Aim of the programme
SNSF Spark aims at supporting the rapid testing or development of novel and unconventional scientific approaches, methods, theories, standards and ideas in any disciplines. The focus is on promising ideas of high originality for which preliminary data are not necessarily available (high-risk research). Applicants can request a budget of Min. CHF 50’000 – Max. 100’000 for 6-12 months.
Anonymization of the project description
Proposals are evaluated in a double-blind process by members of an international pool of experts. Read carefully how to anonymise your proposal in the EPFL Toolkit!
Who can apply?
Applicants who request that their own salary be financed fully or in part by this grant must enclose a written confirmation from the institution confirming their employment situation. EPFL internal deadline: Friday, 14 February 2024. More info in the EPFL Toolkit.
How to apply
Project proposals must be submitted via mySNF. The online application form will be available from 31 January 2025.

Who can apply?
- Applicants at any career level holding a Doctorate (PhD or MD-PhD) or equivalent qualification.
- Doctoral students are eligible only if they have completed at least 3 years of research work since obtaining their higher education degree and prior to commencing their doctorate.
- The applicant must be employed (no minimum work quota required) at a Swiss institution for the duration of the project.
