This is a singular time in the development of fundamental physics. The triumphs of the 20th century culminated in the understanding that the principles of quantum-mechanics and space-time make the structure of the laws of nature inevitable. The challenge of the 21st century is that, at the deepest level, these principles are mutually contradictory and naively seem to make the existence of our macroscopic universe impossible. In this talk, I will describe the different avenues that are being pursued to attack these central questions of fundamental physics
