Structure Property Relationships in Exciton Fission and Fusion
In this seminar I will discuss our work leveraging synthetic chemistry to understand and apply exciton fission and fusion (singlet fission and upconversion respectively). We have developed novel intramolecular singlet fission materials with properties that make them desirable for device applications. We have also uncovered new families of materials that can undergo triplet-triplet annihilation upconversion. In addition, we have elucidated design rules for these materials, to optimize the efficiency of this mechanism of upconversion. Finally, we demonstrated a novel application of upconversion: performing photoredox catalysis with infrared radiation.
