"The Quantum Sonar: Mode-selected electron-phonon interaction in Pb ultrathin films measured by He atom scattering."
The seminar illustrates how the gentlest of all surface probes, helium atoms, which just tickle the surface 3 Å above the first atomic plane, can listen to the phonons of a metal ultra-thin film, even 7 layers beneath the surface, and tell us about their interaction with electrons. In summary it will tell:
a) A brief history of skin and bones
b) How HAS perceives underground phonons of metal surfaces via electronic excitations
c) How HAS provides mode-selected e-p coupling of metal films
