I will present our ongoing work that aims to understand the basis of cell polarisation and cell-cell fusion. My lab is using one of the simplest eukaryotic cell, the fission yeast, to dissect the molecular controls of cellular asymmetries. I will present three short stories on how haploid (gametic) cells efficiently pair with partners in complex environments, how they prepare for cell-cell fusion, and how the now diploid zygote avoids fusing again to preserve genome integrity through meiosis.
