I will start by explaining schematically mirror symmetry ideas for the moduli space of Higgs bundles.
Then in the second part I will discuss the existence of very stable Higgs bundles and how it implies
a formula for the multiplicities of the global nilpotent cone, and their connection to mirror symmetry.
This is joint work with Nigel Hitchin.
