The Wellcome Trust “Collaborative Awards in Science” support Basic and clinical research in any disciplines carried out by a team of researchers, working together on the most important scientific problems to improve health for everyone.
Interdisciplinary projects across Science, Humanities and Social Science and Innovations teams are encouraged.
Who can apply

- The PI must be based in UK, Ireland or a Low or Middle income country.
- Swiss-based researchers can only join a consortium if they bring essential expertise or resources.
- The consortium must have between 2-7 members. Each applicant must be essential and bring different expertise.
- Applicants must have a permanent, open-ended or long-term rolling contract, or the guarantee of one and have their salary covered by other sources for the duration of the grant.
Funding & Duration: Max. £4 million for up to 5 years
- Covers: personnel (salary for all research staff involved; excluding the salary of applicants’ outside the UK/Low or middle income countries), materials and consumables, animals, purchase of essential equipment (incl. VAT; if equipment > CHF 100’000 25% of its cost must be covered with own funding), one personal computer or laptop per person, access to essential equipment or facilities, travel, conference and subsistence costs, field research, publications, other.
- Does NOT cover: overheads, open access article processing charges and, for researchers outside of the UK, clinical studies or trials.
Deadlines 3 times per year in April, August and November.

- Scientific review by the applicable committee: Cell and Developmental Biology; Cellular and Molecular Neuroscience; Cognitive Neuroscience and Mental Health; Genetics, Genomics and Population Research; Immune System in Health and Disease; Molecular Basis of Cell Function; Pathogen Biology and Disease Transmission; Physiology in Health and Disease; Population and Public Health.
