After giving some historical remarks on the development of user-assisted
authentication protocols, recent developments in the wireless
communication standards will be discussed. A new feature was recently
added to Bluetooth which enables to derive a master key for IEEE 802
radios in multiradio devices. Wireless USB, which originally adopted
Phil Zimmermann's numeric comparison protocol, is currently in the
process of specifying a passkey based authentication method.
