The Yokonuma--Hecke algebras are generalisations of Iwahori--Hecke algebras, appearing in the theory of reductive groups over finite fields. I will recall their original definition and give an explicit description of the Yokonuma--Hecke algebra of GL(N), which will be our object of study. In this case, I will also describe an independent motivation for their study, coming from links theory.
Then I will present our main result, which is an isomorphism theorem for the Yokonuma--Hecke algebras of GL(N), together with two applications. The first one is for the representation theory of these algebras and the second one is concerned with the study of Markov traces and the construction of link invariants. This is a joint work with Nicolas Jacon.
