The world is grappling with complex challenges, from climate change to public health and the emergence of AI, all of which place scientists at the forefront of the search for solutions.

Are you a PhD student interested in exploring viable avenues for natural scientists and engineers to engage with society beyond the lab?

Then apply for the Beyond the Lab summer school! This 4-day ETH-EPFL summer school explores the nexus of science and policy, showing how scientists can address global issues and make a real-world impact. We bring together perspectives from academia, industry, policymakers, and other stakeholders, to explore the myriad of ways in which science can influence public decisions and how to face the challenges associated with taking action. You can look forward to:

  • engaging discussions with a cohort of doctoral students interested in these topics
  • networking opportunities to meet professionals at the intersection of science and policy
  • hands-on practical workshops such as crafting a policy brief and negotiation simulations
Registrations are open from 02.04 until 30.04. The summer school will take place near Interlaken, in Beatenberg, from 25.06 to 28.06.2024.
