The State Secretariat for Education, Research, and Innovation (SERI) has commissioned the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) as Leading House for bilateral research collaboration with partner institutions in South Asia and Iran, namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Aim: Bridging grants can be awarded to Swiss researchers who have already successfully completed a project with the partner in South Asia and Iran. In fact, the grant offers the possibility to prepare a grant application for a full joint research project (e.g. through the SNSF, EU funding or any other national or regional funding body). Bridging grants may also enable the intensification of joint teaching or curriculum development.

Eligibility

  • The main applicant must be a scientist at a Swiss federal or cantonal university, university of applied sciences or university of teachers’ education, or a public research institution.
  • The co-applicant must be a scientist at research institutes or universities in the partner countries in South Asia and Iran.
  • Companies may be involved as additional partners.
  • All disciplines; both basic and applied research.
Deadline: 20 January 2018 (only for Bridging Grants with India; the call for the other countries will open in April 2018).

Funding: between CHF 10,000 and 25,000 for up to 6 months.
  • Covers: direct research costs. Partial salary costs will only be granted for the author of a joint proposal that is confirmed to be submitted to a larger funding agency.
  • Does NOT cover: full doctoral salaries; the exchange of researchers (i.e. costs for travel, accommodation, consumables), which can be submitted for a Mobility grant (additional information available soon); overheads or other indirect costs.
