Opening on Monday, July 7, the "Chalet d'en bas" is the Montreux Jazz Festival's prime exhibition spot, where the festival opens its vaults and valorizes its archives through various displays and technological implements, with EPFL one of its key partners. Located within the festival's main location (the 2m2c convention center), the "Chalet" is accessible free of charge.
EPFL presents several interactive demos making use of the audiovisual archives of the festival, which are being digitized by the school. The SounDDots ("sonic umbrellas" offering hyper-localized, high-quality sound for specific listening areas) neighbor sonic and visual reconstitutions of the long-gone Kursaal Casino, a former venue of the Festival that famously went up in flames in 1971 and birthed Deep Purple's classic "Smoke on the Water".
Emblematic festival paraphernalia, interactive light walls, iPad displays and a photography exhibition by Catherine Ceresole complete the offer at the "Chalet d'en Bas". Opening and roundtables are on Monday, July 7 (starting 5pm). The "Chalet" remains open throughout the Festival's duration (until Saturday, July 19).
