Summary of the program:
ERC Advanced Grants are for established, leading scientists who seek funding for ambitious research projects. The proposed research should address important challenges, introduce novel concepts and approaches and lead to significant breakthroughs.
The ERC Advanced Grant call 2021 is the first one in the framework of the new European research program “Horizon Europe”. Swiss researchers are encouraged to submit project-proposals for the upcoming deadline on the 31st of August 2021. As long as the negotiations for the association of Switzerland to Horizon Europe are ongoing, Switzerland is treated as an associated country.
Updates on the association of Switzerland and related questions are provided by the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation.
Who can apply:
Researchers who are applying through host institutions in Switzerland are currently unable to submit applications for the ERC grants.
Applicants to the ERC Advanced Grants are expected to be outstanding research leaders with a track record of significant research achievements in the last 10 years. They should be exceptional leaders in terms of originality and significance of their research contributions.
Funding & Duration:
An amount of EUR 2.5 million can be claimed for a period of 5 years. An additional EUR 1 million may be requested for “start-up” if moving from a third country, the purchase of major equipment, access to large facilities and/or major experimental and field work costs.
Submission deadline:
The call 2021 opens on the 20th of May with a deadline for proposal submissions on the 31st of August this year.
