Science can appear inaccessible and complex to non-scientists and art can seem unachievable and daunting to scientists. This 3-day course aims to bring together scientists and artists to create films that communicate complex concepts in science. In groups of 4-5, participants will:

  • find a scientific concept they want to communicate
  • discuss how they want to communicate this concept
  • produce a short film aimed at a non-scientist audience
The short films will be aimed at members of the public with the purpose of helping people engage with and understand science. On a Sunday evening, the films will be presented at the Oblo Theatre and a panel of judges (science communicators, scientists, and filmmakers) will award a prize to the film that best fulfills the aims of the hackathon. There will also be a free public showing of the films at Cinéma Pully on Wednesday 6th December. WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
  • Scientists
  • Filmmakers
  • Artists
  • People with a passion for communicating science
On each day of the event we will have mentors that are experts in various fields. They will be available for consultation about ideas and methods. They will also give short presentations about their experiences communicating science.
