Dr. Luigi Martiradonna, Editor of Nature Materials Bio: Luigi Martiradonna received a first degree in electronic engineering from the Polytechnic University of Bari and a PhD in innovative materials and technologies from the University of Salento in Italy. Having been trained in nanotechnologies for quantum-dot-based optical devices, during his postdoctoral experience at the Institute of Industrial Science in Tokyo he became interested in photonic-crystal structures embedding colloidal nanocrystals. As a postdoctoral researcher and team leader of the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia, he then worked on the development of technologies for the detection and stimulation of neuronal synaptic signals. At Nature Materials, which he joined in January 2013, Luigi handles manuscripts in the broad area of applied physics, with a particular interest in organic and flexible electronics, photovoltaics and materials synthesis. |

Nature Materials offers authors high visibility to their work. A team of full-time, professional editors selects and commissions articles that have the best chances to appeal to the journal's broad audience. In this talk I will convey the editor’s perspective on the life of a manuscript after submission to Nature Materials, and provide an overview of some editorial initiatives in the Nature journals aiming at improving the peer-review process and the transparency of published manuscripts.
