David Simon is joining the SPC as the artist-in-residence for the coming three months as part of the Zurich University of the Arts "artists-in-labs" program. In his residency, he's seeking to investigate the aesthetic properties of fusion plasma. Under the project title "Plasma as a Medium" he is looking at the technological means by which it can be aesthetically explored and how it can possibly even be used as an artistic medium. In his artistic inquiries, David often uses metaphors, an ongoing field of interest of his. More recently, he's been exploring the symbolic and aesthetic qualities of natural phenomena. Besides his individual art practice, he is also part of the artist duo Simon/Odermatt.
In this Introduction, David will show some examples of his previous work and give an overview of his plans for the SPC. He will also provide some context around the concept of the "artists-in-labs" program with examples of previous residencies from past years.
