Aim:  This is a Project Funding call. Researchers may submit a Lead Agency application if there are no thematic overlaps with applications under evaluation at the SNSF or with ongoing projects.  Swiss applicants cannot simultaneously submit any further SNSF project funding applications.

Amount:  Costs are calculated on the basis of the relevant national guidelines.

Duration: 48 months maximum or as specified in the NSF Program

Important Deadlines
SNSF: 
  • Proposal: 03 April (EOI 17 February) & 02 October (EOI: 23 August)
    • Expected to adhere to the research areas, funding limits, and grant durations for the participating NSF programs and for the SNSF programs from which funding is sought. 
    • As details vary by NSF program, U.S. Principal Investigators (PI) are encouraged to contact program directors of pertinent NSF programs for specific guidance.
    • The full proposal should be submitted within 12 months of the EOI being approved.  
  • Review Process: the review process will follow the same evaluation process as SNSF Project Funding process. 
  • SNSF will be the Lead Agency in the first year and will accept proposals on their deadlines of April 3rd and October 2nd, 2023.
USA-NSF:
  • Purpose of EOI: The EOIs will be used to determine eligibility for the Lead Agency Opportunity.
  • The NSF will notify applicant 30 calendar days before proposals are due.  
  • After approval by the NSF, the full proposal can be submitted to the Lead Agency.  
  • If the EOI has not been approved by NSF prior to submission of a full proposal, the proposal may not be considered for evaluation (i.e., may be returned without review).
Eligibility Important US Partner Information
  • Expression of Interest (EOI):  The US applicant must submit an EOI describing the entire project to the NSF regardless of whether the lead lies with the SNSF or NSF
  • The applicants based in the USA need to submit the proposal to the NSF after the project has been accepted for funding.
