The pyrochlore iridate family of materials (A2Ir2O7, A = lanthanide or yttrium) is characterized by the presence of comparable Coulomb and spin orbit interactions, where the relative strength can be tuned through the choice of A. Additionally, magnetic frustration effects associated with the pyrochlore lattice are present. I will discuss our recent work on the magnetic properties of three representative members of this family (A = Yb, Y, and Nd) via muSR, magnetization, and transport measurements as the system crosses over from long-range magnetically ordered insulators toward a non-ordered conducting ground state.
