I will talk about the arithmetic geometry side of a joint work with T. Browning and L. Matthiesen. The Hasse principle and weak approximation for certain complete intersections of quadrics, established by methods of additive combinatorics, lead to new cases when the Brauer-Manin obstruction controls the Hasse principle and weak approximation. Among these cases are del Pezzo surfaces of low degree and fibrations into conics and 2-dimensional quadrics.
