The EPFL Photonics Chapter (EPC) is very pleased to announce and cordially invite you to our monthly ‘Pizza-Optics-Beer’ (POB) seminar on April 10th, at 18:15 in room CO 122.
This month we will have the pleasure to host Ghewa AlSabeh - doctoral assistant in Laboratory of Photonics and Interfaces with the presentation entitled:
"Enhancing the Functionality of Layered Hybrid Perovskites"
For organizational purposes (if you want to eat pizza!), please confirm your participation using this Doodle.
Don’t hesitate to extend the invitation to any postdoc and colleague!
Hope to see you there,
The team of the EPFL Photonics Chapter
Abstract:
Metal halide perovskites have shown exceptional potential in converting solar energy to electric power in photovoltaics, yet their application is hampered by limited operational stability. This stimulated the development of hybrid layered (two-dimensional, 2D) halide perovskites based on hydrophobic organic spacers, templating perovskite slabs, as a more stable alternative. However, conventional organic spacer cations are electronically insulating, resulting in charge confinement within the inorganic slabs, thus limiting their functionality. This can be ameliorated by extending the π-conjugation of the spacer cations. We demonstrate the capacity to access Ruddlesden-Popper (RP) and Dion-Jacobson (DJ) 2D perovskites incorporating for the first time aryl-acetylene-based (4-ethynylphenyl) methylammonium (BMAA) and buta-1,3-diyne-1,4-diylbis (4,1-phenylene) dimethylammonium (BDAA) spacers, respectively. We assess their unique opto(electro)ionic characteristics by a combination of techniques and apply them in mixed-dimensional perovskite solar cells that show superior device performances with a power conversion efficiency of up to 23 % and higher operational stability, opening the way for multifunctionality in layered hybrid materials and their application.
You don't know POBs?
POBs (Pizza-Optics-Beer) are monthly seminars organized by the student association EPFL Photonics Chapter.
A PhD or a postdoc gives a 20-minutes presentation about his/her research in photonics. Discussions continue informally around pizza and beers!
The event is free and open to anyone.
We thank the Doctoral Program in Photonics (EPDO), the Society of Photo-Optical Instrumentation Engineers (SPIE.), Optica and SwissPhotonics for their support.
