Public screening of "The Cost of Growth" documentary

Join us for a public screening of The Cost of Growth, a 2025 documentary now travelling through cinemas, universities, and festivals across Europe.

Earlier the same day, the participatory workshop “Feeling Futures: What futures feel desirable, and what emotional attachments make letting go so difficult?” will invite participants to explore the emotional and moral attachments that shape how we imagine change. The evening screening continues this conversation through film: what are the real costs of growth, and what kinds of solidarity, resistance and cooperation are already emerging?

The Cost of Growth connects local struggles against extractivism in Serbia, Italy and Sápmi with broader debates on justice, democracy, and war. It shows how people across Europe are not only resisting false solutions, but also building alternatives - from grassroots organizing to new forms of cooperation and solidarity. 
 
The screening will close with a brief informal exchange among audience members on how people feel, understand, and organize around sustainability transitions, and how attention, care and solidarity can become part of collective pathways toward more just and liveable futures. 

The discussion is facilitated by Jie Gao, PhD candidate in the EPFL–ETH Zurich Joint Doctoral Program in the Learning Sciences and transdisciplinary researcher on emotional capability development for socio-ecological transformations.
