In this talk I'll give an introduction to topological quantum codes.
These are (co-)homology groups of compact tiled manifolds, where the (co-)homology has coefficients in the field with two elements.
I'll explain how this yields a quantum stabilizer code,
which is a subspace of a Hilbert space picked out by an abelian group of Hermitian operators. The geometry of the tiled Riemann surface is
intimately connected to the properties of the resulting quantum code.
About the Speaker:
He is a research scientist at Quantinuum, working in the quantum error correction team. Before that he was a postdoc at University College London, and the Jagiellonian University in Poland. He obtained his PhD in theoretical physics at the University of Sydney, Australia.
