The SciFilmIt Hackathon brings unique and exciting experiences to students, researchers, and artists at UniL and EPFL. The course takes place over three full days and provides free food and drinks. Teams, created by the organizers, will create a three-minute film by 6 pm on the last day.

Groups choose the subject of their film during the first day of the course and present it at the end of the hackathon in front of the experts and the public. Over the course of the first two days, mentors will give seminars on varying areas including how to tell a story, how to work successfully in a team, how to make a three-minute film in 3 days, and how to identify and reach your target audience. The mentors will be experts from the worlds of science, film, and communication. They will work with teams over the 3 days to help them create the best film possible and get the most from the course. Ph.D. students who participate and complete this course will be assigned 1 ECTS credit (equivalent to 28 hours).

The films created over the three days will be presented to the public in a free science cinema evening in September. During this event, the audience will vote for their favorite and engage with the science and art in a Q&A session and an after-show apéro.
