The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) has commissioned ETHZ as Leading House for bilateral research collaboration with the China Scholarship Council (CSC) in all scientific disciplines.
ETHZ and CSC run the China – Exchange of Young Researchers Programme for applicants based in Switzerland and China who, after an initial contact set up at a symposium, workshop or alike, want to start research activities with their counterparts by:
- Hosting young Chinese scholars in Switzerland for 6-24 months AND
- Sending young Swiss scholars to China for max. 12 months.
Who can apply:
- the Swiss Main Applicant must be a senior researcher holding a permanent position at an eligible Swiss institution. Note: The Chinese and Swiss partners must have set up initial contacts during a symposium, workshop, for a publication, the submission of a joint research proposal or alike.
- The young scholars must be PhD students or post-doctoral researchers registered/employed at an eligible institution in Switzerland or China.
Funding: The CSC will provide a scholarship in accordance to the regulations of the Chinese government (CHF 2100 per month for PhD students and postdoctoral researchers including health insurance, and a return international air fare to Switzerland). The Swiss side will top up the scholarship to CHF 2500 per month (for both PhD students and postdocs). If the visiting scholars (academic guests) receive employee status in the Swiss institute, the Swiss side will pay for social costs (AHV, etc.) up to CHF 250 per month in addition.
Duration: 6-24 months
