SNSF: FOREST Partnership: call for proposals

The European Partnership FOREST (FOrests, forestry, and the forest-based sector: REsearch and innovation for a Sustainable Transition) has launched its first Joint Call for transnational research and innovation projects. The SNSF is joining this initiative to support research and innovation towards a sustainable forest bioeconomy, focusing on forest resilience, sustainable management and innovative forest-based products and value chains.
The call supports transnational research and innovation, from fundamental to applied research and, where appropriate, demonstration activities. Projects are expected to generate new knowledge, develop practical solutions and contribute to implementation in policy, management or industry contexts.
Four Topics:
- Climate-resilient forest systems
- Adaptive and multifunctional forest management systems
- Timber and innovative wood-based products
- Forest value chains, markets and governance
Requirements for Swiss Applicants:
- Funding is provided by the participating national or regional Research Funding Organisations, according to their respective funding rules.
- Swiss-based applicants must meet the eligibility requirements for SNSF Project Funding.
- An administrative application must also be submitted to the SNSF portal by the same deadline as the application to the FOREST Call Office.

The submission deadlines:
- Pre-proposal deadline: 2 December 2026, 13:00 CET (FOREST Call Office)
- Full-proposal deadline: 2 June 2027
- Expected project start: First half of 2028
Project Requirements:
- A consortium must include at least three independent legal entities from three different EU Member States / Horizon Europe Associated Countrie, including at least two countries eligible for EU funding.
- There is no overall maximum number of partners.
- For Switzerland, SNSF anticipates funding ca. 2 projects under this call.
- For Swiss applicants: Grant up to CHF 600,000 per applicant.
- Project overheads: Cannot be requested
