In the context of the Indo-Swiss Joint Research Programme (ISJRP), the SNSF and the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) in India have issued another call to support collaborations between researchers in Switzerland and India.

This 2020 call aims to support research and development projects that advance the implementation of Systems Medicine approaches, in both clinical research and medical practice, by funding high quality research projects that will look at health and disease, including (but not limited to) the current COVID-19 pandemic, from a systems level perspective.

The submitted applications will be jointly evaluated by the SNSF and the DBT. The call is foreseen to fund 15-20 projects. The SNSF will cover the costs for the Swiss part of the research and the DBT the costs incurred in India.

Who can apply:

  • At least one applicant based in Switzerland and one based in India. Further applicants and project partners based in Switzerland and/or India can also participate.
  • Swiss-based applicants: natural persons employed at a Swiss university, a Swiss university of applied sciences or an institution of the ETH Domain. They must be eligible for SNSF Project Funding (EPFL Instructions for SNSF Project Funding).
  • Applicants based in India: applicants from (public or private) academia, research organisations and urban or other local bodies (including NGO(s) / VO(s) / Trust(s) /Research foundations, having research as one of their mandates).
  • All main applicants and further applicants may only submit one application per call.

Funding & Duration:
  • Max. CHF 250’000 for 3 years or Max. CHF 350,000 for 4 years.
  • Eligible costs for Swiss-based applicants: employees’ salaries (PhD students, postdocs, other staff) as well as consumables, some minor equipment and the mobility costs related to the project. Expenses related to international travel are to be charged to the budget of the visiting side and the living expenses to the budget of the hosting side (see flat rates in the call guidelines). Deadline: 11 September 2020 at 17:00 CEST
  • Submission: Proposals are to be jointly prepared by the Swiss and Indian applicants. They must be submitted by the Swiss main applicant to the SNSF mySNF.
  • Earliest start: 1 May 2021.
