Amount: Costs are calculated on the basis of the relevant national guidelines.
- On average: CHF 250,000 / yr. for duration of grant
- Maximum total project cost: CHF 1 million / year
SNSF Project Funding umbrella:
- Researchers may submit a Lead Agency application if there are no thematic overlaps with applications under evaluation at the SNSF or with ongoing projects.
- If an investigator currently has SNSF funding or an application is in the pipeline, s/he may apply if there is no overlap.
- Swiss applicants cannot simultaneously submit any further SNSF project funding applications.
- Up to 3 project funding grants that overlap in time (if at least one of them is approved for a Lead Agency/Weave project, International Co-Investigator Scheme, or for European consortium project).
- Sinergia and SNSF career grants count as project funding grants
- Each investigator may participate as an applicant in one proposal / call
- Expression of Interest: 02 August 2023; must be submitted by US partner to NSF.
- Proposal: 02 October (EOI: 02 August 2023)
- Expected to adhere to the research areas, funding limits, and grant durations for the participating NSF programs and for the SNSF programs from which funding is sought.
- As details vary by NSF program, U.S. Principal Investigators (PI) are strongly encouraged to contact program directors of pertinent NSF programs for specific guidance.
- The full proposal should be submitted within 12 months of the EOI being approved.
- Review Process: the review process will follow the same evaluation process as SNSF Project Funding process.
- SNSF will be the Lead Agency in the first year and will accept proposals October 2nd, 2023.
- Purpose of EOI: The EOIs will be used to determine eligibility for the Lead Agency Opportunity.
- The NSF will notify applicant 30 calendar days before proposals are due.
- After approval of the EOI by the NSF, the full proposal can be submitted to the Lead Agency.
- If the EOI has not been approved by NSF prior to submission of a full proposal, the proposal will not be considered for evaluation (i.e., may be returned without review).
- Eligibility of PIs to submit proposals is subject to each agency's respective eligibility rules and policies, as spelled out in the NSF Proposal and Award Policies and Procedures Guide (PAPPG) and/or the NSF solicitation to which a proposal will be submitted, and SNSF’s regulations and guidelines.
- SNSF as Lead Agency
- NSF as Lead Agency
- Expression of Interest (EOI): The US applicant must submit an EOI describing the entire project to the NSF regardless of whether the lead lies with the SNSF or NSF
- The applicants based in the USA need to submit the proposal to the NSF after the project has been accepted for funding
