The Academy of Finland opens a targeted call for applications in Antarctic research. The aim is to generate internationally significant new breakthroughs in Antarctic research.
The scope of the call covers all relevant areas of Antarctic research. The research must be multidisciplinary and may be global or circumpolar, focusing on both Polar Regions, but it must be research that cannot be conducted without Antarctic data.
Who can apply:
- In addition to a doctoral degree, the principal investigator (PI) of the proposed project must also have other significant scientific merits. Usually the PI is a professor or a researcher at the docent level (adjunct professor). The funding can be applied for by both individual research teams and consortia composed of two or several research teams.
- Only projects that involve international collaboration are eligible to receive funding.
Funding:
- EUR 450,000 for four-year projects;
- maximum funding EUR 600,000 per project (EUR 150,000 per year);
- maximum total funding per consortium-based Academy Project EUR 1 million (EUR 250,000 per year).
Duration: 1 January 2021–31 December 2024.
Eligible costs:
- personnel costs, research-related costs, overheads.
- the PI’s salary costs may, under certain limitations, be incorporated into the total project costs.
- up to 70% of the total project costs can be covered.
