Abstract
Given how AI is transforming the processes and methods of doing research today one may ask what AI is not capable of. Perhaps the unplanned discoveries that could not be mined or combined from existing data and knowledge are examples that will always go beyond AI models and agents. Classical scientific findings are of course Fleming´s discovery of penicillin and the use of x-rays by Röntgen. In this talk I will describe two discoveries in solar cell research that I doubt would have been proposed by AI, viz. dye-sensitized and perovskite solar cells. The present status of the two technologies as well as some future outlook will also be discussed.
