In this presentation, I will talk about Wikimedia Foundation's Research team, how it operates, and what it does. I will present some of the work that has been done in the team and in collaboration with researchers in academia and industry, and talk about the direction of the team in the coming year. This will be an interactive presentation with the goal of sharing the state of research at the Wikimedia Foundation and providing a platform for exchanging ideas. Come with your questions, comments, and the curiosity towards Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects.
Bio:
Leila Zia is a Senior Research Scientist at the Wikimedia Foundation. Her research interests include quantifying and addressing the gaps of knowledge in Wikipedia and Wikidata, understanding Wikipedia's readers, and studying the contributor diversity on Wikimedia projects. She received her PhD from Stanford University in Management Science and Engineering.
