The Titan Themis, very recently installed at CIME, EPFL is a “double-Cs corrected, monochromated transmission electron microscope”… But what does this mean? I will place the instrument in the perspective of the historical development of electron microscopy, a field that is by no means “mature”, if by that one understands that it is no longer subject to development and evolutions. The capabilities of the machine will be presented briefly, with examples – both from literature and from results obtained on our instrument.
