This initiative supports collaboration between researchers based in high as well as low and middle income countries and addressing different perspectives on Cultural Heritage and Change, especially in relation to one of the following aspects:
- Theoretical development of heritage.
- Contributions of cultural heritage to an economically, socially, and environmentally sustainable future.
- Consequences of the use of ICTs in relation to cultural heritage.
- Threats to heritage such as war, terrorism, or climate change.
While the disciplinary focus within the research groups should be on humanities and social sciences, input from other disciplines is welcome wherever appropriate.
This call is the second joint funding initiative of Compagnia di San Paolo (Italy), Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (Sweden), and the Volkswagen Foundation (Germany). Further calls on other global issues – addressing a variety of disciplines – will follow.
Who can apply:
- Swiss-based applicants are eligible for funding, but the consortium must be led by an applicant based in Germany, Italy or Sweden and include at least 2 applicants based in low and middle income countries (LMICs) for a total of 3-5 applicants.
- Applicants must hold a PhD (or equivalent qualification) and must be affiliated to a university or research institution. All career levels post-PhD are eligible.
Funding & Duration: max. EUR 1.5M for up to 4 years.
- A relatively even distribution of funding amongst the different partners is expected.
- Eligible costs: personnel, travel costs, scientific visits, consumables, acquisition of data, equipment and other research-related costs + part-time administrative costs, science communication measures + up to EUR 10K for a meeting aimed at preparing the pre-proposal. Does not cover overheads.
Timeline of the call:
- Deadline for pre-proposals: 13 May 2020 by 2 p.m. CET (previously 25 March 2020).
- Shortlisted pre-proposals will be invited to submit a full proposal at the end of June 2020.
- Deadline for full proposals: 25 November 2020.
- Interview: 9-10 February 2021
- Decision: March 2021
