Abstract:
Visualizations are widely used, in figures, slides, or posters, to communicate scientific data. Visual communication strategies are however not regularly part of the scientific curriculum. In the workshop participants learn how to recognize common fallacies of scientific charts and how to avoid these. We will discuss different chart types and their use and misuse, ethical data display, and design principles to make effective to audiences. We will also get to know some useful resources that can be helpful in this. Using exercises we will turn a sad plot into better versions of themselves.
