Aim:  The Leading House ETH Zurich and the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) jointly fund the exchange of early career scientists between Japan and Switzerland.

Switzerland-​based researchers can apply to ETH Zurich (Leading House Asia) for a stay in Japan and Japanese researchers to JSPS for a stay in Switzerland.

Amount: Grants will cover travel costs and a monthly living allowance for a research stay at a Japanese university or research laboratory.

Deadlines:
- 1 February: Call Launch (12 pm)
- 30 April: Application Deadline
- May-​September: Review Process
- 1 October: Earliest Start

Duration: Research stays of 3–6 months in the partner country

Eligibility:  Doctoral students (in exceptional cases also Master students and early career postdoctoral researchers) from Swiss universities, universities of applied sciences, public research institutes are invited to apply. Please refer to the Call Guidelines on which nationalities and permanent residency holders are eligible to apply. The call is open to all disciplines including social sciences and humanities.

How to Apply:  The Switzerland-​based prospective applicant must apply to ETH Zurich as the Leading House Asia. The application must be submitted online with the following attachments in one single pdf document (English).
The application shall include:
  • Research plan
  • CV of the applicant (Switzerland-​based scholar)
  • Supporting letter from the Switzerland-​based supervisor. Include: Stating that the applicant is scheduled to be awarded a PhD degree within two years from the fellowship starting date.
  • Acceptance letter from the Japanese host
  • Any other supporting document(s)
