The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) has commissioned the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) as Leading House for bilateral research collaboration with partner institutions in South Asia and Iran, namely Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
 
Mobility Grants enable the young generation of scientists to take part in international research collaboration in all disciplines, including the social sciences and humanities, by:

  • attracting young talents to Switzerland and
  • encouraging Swiss-based researchers to enhance their careers by spending time in an academic environment abroad.
 
Eligibility
  • Applicants
    • must be young scientists with a Master’s degree but no PhD yet.
    • no more than 6 years of professional research experience.
    • must hold nationality of the country where their home institute is or permanent residence or cross-border commuter permit, or be in a marriage or in a registered partnership with a citizen of the country where their home institute is.
  • Home institutes can be:
    • For incoming scientists: government accredited, mandated or appointed, or public research institutes in the partner countries.
    • For outgoing scientists: Swiss federal or cantonal universities, universities of applied sciences, universities of teachers’ education, or public research institutions or
  • Host researchers must be permanently employed principal investigators at a university or research institute.
 
Duration: 1-3 months (latest start of the visit: September 2019).
 
Funding:
  • For outgoing scientists:
    • Host institution abroad covers local costs (living allowance).
    • ZHAW covers flight, work-related public transport, research and local conference costs, if justified, matriculation fees and, if demanded, social charges, insurance, taxes.
  • For incoming scientists:
    • Home institution abroad covers flight.
    • ZHAW covers local costs (living allowance), work-related public transport, research and local conference costs, if justified, matriculation fees. The grant must be used in CH.
  • The Grant
    • Does not cover: overheads.
    • Is disbursed to Swiss-based institutions only.
 
Deadline: 31 March 2019
Note: funds are also allocated on a first come, first serve basis.
Decision: within 1 month
Notification: within 1 week after decision
