Discover the 135 photographs selected by the EPFL Library team for the competition "Life at the Rolex Learning Center: the building and its inhabitants".
On February 22, 2010, the Rolex Learning Center opened its doors to the public for the very first time. In a decade, the building has become the icon of EPFL and its Library an essential site of learning and exchange on campus.
To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Rolex Learning Center, the EPFL Library organized a photography contest on the theme "Life at the Rolex Learning Center: the building and its inhabitants". The contest was open to all for one year, from February 18, 2020 to February 22, 2021. More than 50 students and members of EPFL, amateur or professional photographers, and photography or architecture enthusiasts took part to this collaborative project.
Whether exterior, interior or aerial views, shots highlighting the architecture of the building, the Library collections or the inhabitants of the Rolex Learning Center, all photographs were welcome. Of the 250 photographs received, the Library team selected 135, all of which are shown in the exhibition.
Voting for the 135 photographs selected by the EPFL Library team and shown in the exhibition was open to the public from March 1 to 31, 2021. In one month, nearly 1’000 people visited the voting platform and 5’387 votes were registered. The authors of the three photographs that received the most votes were awarded during an online ceremony on the occasion of Vivapoly on May 27, 2021. The three winning photographs were simultaneously revealed on video...
