The Open Science office launches the first event of the "Open Science Showcase" series:

The Story of Scala: an Open-Source Tale

Come and discover the fantastic journey of Scala, a versatile programming language used by major companies such as Twitter and Netflix, from its genesis to the creation of the non-profit Scala Center and its current actions as a hub for a whole community of users, learners, and contributors!
An inspiring example of a successful Open Science project that currently gathers a community of over 1 million people, presented by Scala founder Prof. Martin Odersky, and executive director of the Scala Center, Darja Jovanovic.

Food will be provided after the seminar, to keep the conversation going and get to know the speakers!

What philosophy led Scala to become a leading open-source programming language?
How did Scala give rise to a non-profit center to ensure the future of its activities?
What makes a project durable and engaging in the long run?
How can we build more sustainable Open Science projects that federate communities to build on each other’s work, together?

We hope Martin and Darja’s testimonies will inspire you to innovate and push the boundaries of Open Science, for a brighter future in academia and beyond.
